Dear Parents and Carers,

What a busy but enjoyable end to the academic year! A huge well done to our Year 6 children for putting on an incredible production! The enthusiasm and confidence of the children was an absolute joy to see! Thank you to all our parents and carers for their comments on the production and also the Leavers Service and being so encouraging with the applause and cheers for the children! The way in which the Year 6 children left school on Thursday to applause from so many parents was just wonderful!

Wishing all our families a super summer and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 6th September!

Best wishes,

Mr Braund

Pupil Premium

We would like to remind you all to take the opportunity to apply for Free School Meals, as if entitled this will mean that you are eligible for pupil premium as well as the free meals. This also means that the school will receive additional funding.

Currently, at North Town we also offer a pupil premium grant for those who qualify as the children of service families or those entitled to free school meals and this can be used to spend on trips/residentials/music lessons or school uniform.

It can really make a difference to you and the school, please don’t delay – apply today!

Please click on the link below to apply online.

Free school meals (somerset.gov.uk)

Also remember that all children in Years R – 2 receive universal infant free school meals regardless of circumstance. This does not entitle you to the pupil premium grant unless you have already met the criteria assessed by applying.

Wraparound – Cancellation Policy

Please see below an extract from our wraparound parent manual (also included with the newsletter)

When do charges apply?

There is no charge for bank holidays or for planned school closures such as inset days.

Fees are payable in full for all periods of children’s absences and sickness.

Following the advice provided by Public Health England’s Guidance on Health Protection in Schools and other Childcare Facilities, any child who has, or develops, an infectious illness must be kept at home to prevent the spread of illness and must not attend school to protect the health and wellbeing of the other children and staff. Fees are payable at the full rate during periods of sickness absence from wrap around care. In the event of a long-term illness, individual circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Emergency closure

There are certain rare events that could result in the wrap around care at North Town Primary School having to close for a limited time. We aim to rectify the closure as soon as possible and keep all parents/carers informed of the situation. In the event of bad weather such as heavy snowfall that would make it hazardous for both staff and parents/carers to travel, the premises will be closed for health and safety reasons. The Head teacher will decide whether it is safe for children and staff to attend. Staff will inform parents /carers at the earliest opportunity. In the event of an emergency closure, no fees will apply and payments already made will be credited to the account. Parents/carers will be informed at the end of each day about the situation and the likelihood of opening on the following day. Please refer to our Emergency Closure Policy for more information.

If the provision is open but it is parental choice for the child not to attend the provision, fees still apply.

School Uniform Policy

We know that many of you will be thinking ahead an buying new uniform for your children in readiness for their return to school in September, but may we remind you of the following included in our school uniform policy:

  • School shoes should be black in colour – Boots are not permissible.
  • Trouser/Shorts/Pinafores and Skirts should be grey in colour.
  • Green school cardigan or jumper
  • The children should wear white shirts not polo shirts, along with a school tie.
  • Long hair should be tied back with hairbands and clips preferably in uniform colours.
  • No jewellery is allowed other than stud earrings.
  • No nail varnish.

Could we also remind you about the importance of naming your child’s belongings. If you see what ends up in lost property on a weekly basis you would be surprised. Anything unclaimed will be used as second-hand uniform or placed in the textile bank near our front entrance.

Missing North Town Sports Kit

Please could you check at home and return any North Town sports kit that has been worn for an extra-curricular event. This will either be a green and black Joma top with a number on the back, a green and black hooped rugby top, or NT cricket whites. This can be returned to the office or your class teacher.

Uganda Appeal – Thank-you!

I just wanted to thank all the parents and children who donated glasses, clothes, shoes and toys to our Uganda appeal. At the end of June a group of us went to Uganda for 2 weeks to work with children and families living with disabilities. Our time was mostly spent in rural communities and the donations we received were warmly received. We have created lasting links with the volunteers working for the charity in Uganda so we can continue supporting their good work. I’ve attached some photos of children playing with bubbles and trying on some new shoes (which will support learning to walk).
