13th October 2023

Dear parents/carers,

How is it almost half-term? The weeks are flying by! Thank you to all the parents and carers that have signed up for parents evening. We always aim for a 100% turnout and is a great opportunity to meet the teacher and discuss how you child has settled into their new class and the work they are doing.

It has been wonderful to see so much super work these past days including handwriting from Pippins children, descriptive writing from Year One and maths work from various classes in KS2.

Without a doubt the quote of the week came from one of our Year Six children who is a KS1 play leader at lunchtime. She walked past me at the end of play and said ‘that’s tiring work being on the KS1 playground!’ 😊

Pupil Premium

We have sent a really important ParentMail out today asking all parents to complete a Pupil Premium online document to check for eligibility for Pupil Premium funding. Please can all families spend two minutes completing the form. It’s easy to complete and does need you to have your National Insurance number. Pupil Premium funding for schools helps greatly with providing additional resources and opportunities for eligible families.

Parents Evening Reminder

Just a reminder that we have our first parents evening on Tuesday 17th October. Parents are invited to the school library, where they will have the opportunity to look at their child’s work. Mr Braund, Mrs Screech, Mrs Hampshire and School Governors will be in the school library to meet parents and take them over to the hall for their allocated time slot. Please be aware that all parents and carers must be in the hall for their allocated time.

We really appreciated the positive feedback from parents and carers on the Parents Evening format we introduced last year.

Harvest Reminder

Just a reminder that we have a KS2 Harvest Assembly on Monday 16th October. We sent a ParentMail earlier in the week for donations of specific items for the ‘Open Door Charity’ in Taunton. Please can these be brought in on Monday.

Library Books

We are really proud of our library at North Town but would like to plea to all parents and carers that when the children loan a book from the library that they are returned. Over 150 reading books were not returned to school at the end of the last academic year which will cost the school approximately £750 to replace. It is our aim to have our library shelves jam packed with a wide range of books to give the children a rich variety of books to choose from.

Parent Information Box

In the box this week is information about the importance of all children having a good bedtime routine – with ideas on how to create a routine that works! Please help yourself.

Back gate

It has come to our attention that several children are trying to work out the code on the padlock on the Upper Wood Street gate entrance.  Please can you talk to your children about why this is not a good idea and ask them to stand back when you see a member of staff undoing the lock.  The safety of all the children is our priority and we want to ensure that only permitted people have access, and that the children are not able to access the road when in school.

Secondary School Applications

This is a reminder that the closing date for secondary school applications, for year 6 children, is Tuesday 31st October 2023.  These applications can be made on the Somerset Council website.

Christmas Fayre

The school Christmas Fayre will be from 3:30-5:15 this year on Friday 1st December. There will be crafts to buy in the Key Stage Two classrooms on the playground side of the school and an opportunity to meet Father Christmas in the library. There will be a tombola, trade stalls and drinks in the hall. Weather permitting, the choir will be performing some festive tunes on the playground.
