4th November 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been super seeing everyone back after an enjoyable half term. Thank you all for your cooperation and support regarding the tree situation. We were so impressed with how quickly the tree surgeons came out to support us.

Now we start the gradual countdown to Christmas! This newsletter will give you all the key information and dates for the rest of the autumn term.

Flu Vaccinations

The flu vaccination team will be visiting North Town on Wednesday 30th November and information surrounding this along with a link for you to consent was sent by Parentmail. Please ensure to complete this as soon as possible.

Mini Police

Together with the local PCSO Gina, the ‘Mini Police’ have been learning about the functions of the Police and the support they give to the community.

To date, the group have begun to learn their phonetic alphabet and had a visit from two of the Taunton Policing team, who explained the difference between PCSO’s and Police Offers.

The children were shown the clothing and equipment the team use and had the chance to handle certain items, including handcuffs and riot shields!

In the latest session, the group became ‘mini medics’. They learnt about basic first aid, bandaging wounds and the putting someone in the recovery position. It has been fun and interesting for the children so far and they have a few more activities to look forward to during the remainder of the programme.

Look Who’s Talking Semi Final

A big thank-you to Mrs. Kerton for organising the Look Who’s Talking semi-final, which took place in the school hall this morning. The staff and I were very impressed at the reading and confidence shown by the children taking part. Two of these children will be selected to represent North Town for the final at West Buckland School on Thursday 10th November. Well done everyone!

Winter Uniform

During Parents Evening a number of parents asked Mrs Screech if children can still wear shorts in the winter. The Governing Body have been consulted and have agreed that shorts can be worn all year. We just ask that you are mindful of exceptionally cold weather in the middle of winter.

Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week takes place this year from 14th to 18th November. This year, the theme for the week is ‘reach out’ – encouraging everyone to come together and reach out to others to stop bullying.
In order to encourage children to reach out and unite against bullying, it is crucial that our school environment is safe and supportive for all our children.
If a child feels safe and supported at school, it makes it easier for them to ask for help if they need it, and creates a sense of community among children and staff.
During the week, the children will be completing activities, which will get them thinking about how to support one another, and how to create a safe school environment free of bullying.

The week will kick off with Odd Socks Day on Monday 14th November, where adults and children wear odd socks to celebrate what makes all of us unique.

Attendance

If your child will not be attending school for whatever reason, it is important that you leave an absence message for them with the school office. You can do this by calling 01823 284676, option 1, please leave their name, class and a brief reason. This avoids unnecessary calls and messages from the office team.
