8th March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

World Book Day! What a day it has been. It has been fantastic to see the children in their costumes. They have had a super day and we are really grateful to you for entering into the spirit of the day. It’s days like these the children will always remember! There was also a buzz of excitement throughout the school regarding the school disco this evening. I know the children will have a wonderful time.

Have a smashing weekend everyone.

Mr Braund

Wood Street Car Park

I received an email from Cllr John Hunt this week to confirm that Steve Deakin, the council’s parking service manager has agreed that parents/carers can use the Wood Street car park for 20 minutes when dropping off or collecting children at North Town. All wardens should be aware of this and this is with immediate effect.

Parent Survey

You will see that we have sent out the annual parent survey. We really would appreciate if all parents and carers can take the time to complete it. The closing date to complete the survey is 6pm on Tuesday 12th March.

There is a space at the end of the survey to leave additional comments.

Communications at North Town

We are very much aware that we have a lot of information to communicate to parents at times. We try to give as much information and notification in our weekly newsletter on a Friday. Please do take the time to read our newsletters so you are kept informed of everything that is happening at the school.

North Town, like all the schools in Richard Huish Trust, are currently transitioning from ParentMail to MCAS. This transition will be completed by the start of the summer term. The only platforms we will be using going forwards will be MCAS and Class DoJo for communication and SeeSaw for uploading children’s work.

Lunch ordering

LUNCH ORDERING ON MCAS IS NOW LIVE!

We will be running our school lunches from the MCAS app. This means we will no longer be using Parentmail for ordering lunches. You will need to download the MCAS App if you have not done so already and follow the instructions below: *Top up your dinner money account. *You need to top up your account before ordering lunches. *Nursery lunches are £2.20. *KS2 lunches are £2.80. *KS1 lunches are free. *Navigate to the dinner menu tab on the lefthand side menu. *Choose your meal options which will then turn green once selected. *The money will then get taken from your balance on the day of the meal. *The ‘I’ icon next to the meals will give allergy information and nutritional information. * This menu will be available for orders until Friday 22nd March. If you have any problems with the MCAS App or ordering lunches, please contact the School Office

PE Kit

From the summer term we will be following the lead of other schools by asking the children to come into school on their PE days dressed in their PE kit. We want to ensure that the children are getting as much of their PE time as possible and we feel this will help. We are really proud of the North Town school uniform (including the PE kit) and want the children to come to school dressed in the correct PE kit. Please see below the PE uniform policy.

PE Uniform
Green and yellow sports shirt
Black shorts/skorts of a suitable length
Winter tracksuit trousers (plain unbranded black)
North Town hooded sweatshirt or school jumper
Black or white sport socks
Black or white trainers

The PE days for every class for the summer term will be communicated in the coming weeks.

School Website

Thank you to the many parents and carers for the comments we have received regarding the changes to our website. We are really pleased with it and are looking at ways to continue to improve it. Mr Venning is currently working on a sports video which celebrates our sporting offer at North Town. He has arranged for Somerset and England cricketer, Jack Leach, to visit the school on Friday 22nd March and be filmed promoting the sport we offer at North Town.

Donations Welcome

We would like any donations of shin pads that you have at home that you no longer need. Many children that want to try certain sports at school like football or hockey, require children to wear shin pads when they represent the school for events. Having more spares in school will allow more of our children to access these events. If you can donate any shin pads, please can they be passed onto Mr Grave or the office.

North Town Nursery

We still currently have spaces available in the summer term for new starters!

We are open 8-6pm all throughout the summer and for children that attend our nursery we can offer additional sessions around the timings of induction and settling in sessions for children starting North Town School in September 2024.
We accept the 15 hour and 30 hour funding for 3 and 4 year olds, as well as the new 2 year funding from April 2024.

For the children who attend our nursery and will be starting North Town School in September, we have lots to offer to support the transition with additional activities and the support from our reception class teachers throughout the summer term to help make the transition as comfortable and enjoyable for both the children and parents.

If you would like any further information about our nursery, please pop in to see us or email ntnursery@nt.huish.education

Parent Information Box

In the box this week is information for parents worried about their child’s mental wellbeing. Please take one. Please remember to speak to a member of school Staff if you have any concerns about your child. The information box is situated on the playground wall outside the Main Office.
