Religious Education

Subject Intent

At North Town Primary School and Nursery, our Religious Education curriculum aims to develop a sense of awe and wonder about the different faiths and religions from around the world. Our aim is for our children to discover an appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and the influence of religions in the local, national and wider global community. This will promote respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection.

We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We include and promote British Values, ensuring that our children are aware of their rights and responsibilities as UK citizens. We aim to have regular opportunities to investigate and explore different religious places within their local area including Churches (St Mary Magdalene Church, St James’ Church), Synagogues (Exeter Synagogue), Temples (The Hindu Temple Bristol, The Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Bristol) and Mosques (Yeovil Mosque). Alongside this, we seek to invite visitors into our school who can share their knowledge and experiences about different religions.

We aim to provide hands-on lessons using real-life objects and songs for the children to become fully immersed in the religion that they are learning about.
