Friday 13th February 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

I want to start my newsletter by informing you all that I will be leaving my role as headteacher of North Town Primary School and Nursery to take up the position as Headteacher of Somerset Bridge Primary School in Bridgwater.

I feel extremely privileged to have been the headteacher of this wonderful school these past years and have been incredibly happy at North Town. I will always appreciate how you all have been so supportive of me and all at the school and worked with the staff to ensure the children receive an excellent education. The staff team are fantastic and work brilliantly together to ensure that the school is a happy, enjoyable and engaging environment for the children to learn and thrive. Staff retention these past years has given me great satisfaction. As for the children, to observe them in school enjoying their learning, enthusiastically showing me their work and talking so positively about school has been a pleasure to experience.

I wish to pay a special thank you to my deputy, Heidi Screech, who has been phenomenal from the moment I started at the school and my senior leadership team for their drive and desire to continue to improve the school.

As soon as we are able to, we will share information regarding the appointment of my successor. In the meantime, it is business as usual in ensuring the children continue to enjoy their learning experience at North Town. There is so much to look forward to as we head towards the second half of the school year.

Best wishes

Mr Braund

Year Six Mock SATs

A huge well done to our Year Six children for their fantastic efforts and attitudes in the way they approached the mock SATs tests this week. They have been truly brilliant and we are all very proud of them!

Parent Feedback

I was absolutely delighted to receive such a thoughtful email this week from a parent of a child in year four regarding the PE trip they went on this week:

I had the pleasure of volunteering on the Year 4 Sports Festival trip and wanted to say what a fantastic opportunity it was for the children. The event was extremely well organised and clearly a great success.

The students from North Town Primary School were a true credit to you, Miss Chalcroft and Miss Harlow. They wore their uniform with pride, represented the school impeccably, and integrated wonderfully with pupils from other schools. Their behaviour throughout the day was exemplary, and it was lovely to see them thoroughly enjoying themselves — particularly during the sing-along on the bus journey back to school. Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a positive and memorable experience.

I really appreciate the time the parent has taken to email and to highlight the behaviour of our children.

World Book Day

This is a reminder that it is World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. The children are invited to come to school wearing a book character costume or their pyjamas. We would like the children to bring in the book as well if dressed as a character. All £1 donations will go to the North Town PTA.

Front Gate

Please can we remind everyone to ensure that the gate is shut behind them when they are entering and leaving the school site. We are finding that this is not always happening, particularly during breakfast club drop offs.

Thank you for helping to keep our site and children safe.

World Thinking Day 2026

On Monday 23rd February we will be celebrating World Thinking Day, in support of the global Girlguiding event where members wear their uniforms to school to promote the movement, demonstrate pride, and celebrate international friendship. If your child is a member of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, and members of other scouting organisations and would like to wear their uniform to school that day we welcome them to do so.
