Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Friday, Mrs Screech and I walked throughout the school to witness our older children read their own stories to our younger children. It was an absolute delight to see how engaged everyone was and how much it was enjoyed. Our Nursery children were visited by some year five and year six children and they absolutely loved it. Well done to all of our story tellers and also to our story listeners! We will be doing this again soon.

Have a smashing weekend everyone!

Junior Bake Off

Huge congratulations to Enzo in Year Six who applied to go on Junior Bake Off and was selected for series 10! Enzo can be seen on Channel 4 displaying his fantastic baking skills! What an achievement to be selected and it was absolutely wonderful to see Enzo on TV and speak so confidently and to bake such delights including purr-fect cat cakes and delicious biscuits! Well done Enzo – everyone at North Town are incredibly proud of you!

School PTA

We are incredibly lucky to have an active PTA at North Town. A PTA that is driven to plan events that are not only memorable for the community but raise vital funds. Our school PTA is run by Mrs Tidmarsh and Mrs Howell. Both of them have had their children go through the school and they are both staff members. They have a small team of parents who consistently help at all events. An example of this is our recent Christmas Fayre when some parents kindly gave up their Friday afternoon to help set up and make the fayre the success it was. The PTA meet from time to time to plan. If there are any parents who would like to join the PTA, please contact the school office and they will kindly pass on your details to Mrs Tidmarsh and Mrs Howell. The PTA have paid for so many resources over the years which would not have been possible with their kindness. The latest plan is to donate some funds to improve playtimes on the Key Stage Two playground.

Thank you to our PTA team and volunteers – you are brilliant!

Mr Grave

Mr Grave will be taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon in April! We are all really impressed that he is doing this, and he is currently training hard and building up many miles. He is raising money for the NSPCC – a wonderful cause! The money we raise on Number Day – usually goes straight to the NSPCC. We will donate this money to Mr Grave’s Just Giving page and this will be passed onto the NSPCC. Mr Grave will at the gate on Friday 7th February with a collection bucket. We have also included a link to his Just Giving Page below. Mr Grave, we wish you every success and know you will achieve a great time!

Number Day – Friday 7th February

As mentioned above, it will be NSPCC Number Day on Friday 7th February. The children are invited to come in wearing mufti but with an item of clothing with a number on.

Teaching Assistants

Through my many conversations I have with colleagues from other schools, the recruitment of teaching assistants is becoming harder and harder. I am extremely grateful to the whole North Town team of which our teaching assistants play a huge part in the education of our children. I think it is really impressive that out of all our teaching assistants, 19 have been at North Town for 5 years or more. 11 of our teaching assistants have been at North Town for 10 years or more. I am incredibly proud and impressed with these numbers and I think it says a lot about the commitment of the staff to the school.

Sports Events

Last week we took part in two swimming events. We had an Aquasplash Festival on Monday, where a group of Y5’s had to take part in various team and individual activities, using some different skills in the pool. The children representing the school were Imran, David, Omer, Tiago, Heitor, Olive, Poppy & Amy.

On Friday, we were invited to a swimming gala at Kings College to compete against a few other schools and the children swam brilliantly, performing a range of stroke very impressively in individual and relay races. Our swimmers were Tom, Arthur, George, Omer, Arabella, Elsie and Bobbi (pictured below).

We had the Area Finals of Sportshall Athletics on Thursday 23rd at Richard Huish College. The children pictured below competed brilliantly in a variety of track and field events, overall finishing 5th in the county.

We also had the first Cross Country event on Thursday with the other primary schools in the Trust, held at Lyngford Park Primary School. It was great to see determination and effort from all involved. There was some impressive speed and good times for the mile course, along with great perseverance as all children finished the course. Well done to our runners: Arthur, George C, Tom, Leilani, Ollie, Austin, Megan K & Megan L from Y5/6, and Seth, Bo, Tommy, Harper, Konstantinos, Finley & Millie W from Y3/4, with a special mention to Arthur & Seth who finished first in each of their races. An extra thank you to Miss Fairfax and Miss Causley for their help in the event!
