Friday 7th November
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was really super to see you all again on Wednesday as we opened the gates for another half-term at North Town. I was really delighted to see, once again, how excited the children were to be back in school. I hope you all had a smashing half term break with families and friends.
Thank you for the kind feedback on the new signage that we have at the main gate to North Town – your kind words mean a lot. Thank you to Mrs Screech for her skills in taking the photos – they look amazing.
It was brilliant to see so many families at our first Parent’s Evening of the year. I was really pleased to catch up with so many of you and it was wonderful to observe how proud the children were showing off their work. We are looking forward to the second Parent’s Evening on Tuesday.
This is a busy few weeks and truly magical time as we count down to Christmas. Please take the time to look at key dates at the bottom of the newsletter regarding all our Christmas events.
Have a smashing weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr Braund
Poppies
Children are able to purchase paper poppies during the school day for 50p. Year 6 children will visit the classrooms to sell them.
If you want to purchase any of the other Poppy merchandise you can do so at the office at the end of the school day.
All money from your purchases will go to the Royal British Legion.

Children in Need
Children in Need is on Friday 14th November and we are inviting the children to come to North Town for the day in mufti for a monetary donation.
Sports at North Town
Yesterday, we had Sports hall Athletics at Huish. We were lucky enough to be able to take two teams, so 36 children had the chance to experience this event. Every child had two track and two field events to compete in against other children from other schools. The teamwork, respect and skill on show was outstanding, along with the noise level made from our Y5/6’s! Well done to everyone who represented the school so well.

Uniform requests
Remember, if you would like to request some second-hand school uniform for your child you can follow the link on our website under the parents and school uniform tabs.
North Town Readathon Reminder
It is almost time for this year’s North Town Readathon! Last year, we read over 600 hours as a school and raised over £2000. This money was put towards new books in the library, dictionaries and atlases, story resources and having Matt Oldfield (author of the Ultimate Football Heroes series) visit in KS2. We are grateful for all the guidance and encouragement you, as parents, gave the children, as this would not have been possible without their amazing efforts in reading. We are hoping that the encouragement and enthusiasm will continue this year, along with the opportunities for children to share their brilliant reading with their friends and family.
We are aiming to be able to read over 720 hours (30 days), on the week 10th November – 14th November. This year’s money will be split between purchasing more reading resources, to keep our library as up to date as possible, and money to support the improvement of the school. The total hours and sponsorships will start to be calculated on Friday 21st November. More information about how you can sponsor our readathon will be given after half term. Thank you in advance for your support and contributing towards benefitting North Town.
Christmas Sparkle Gift Donations
Across the past few years we have supported the Christmas Sparkle project. They offer a gift to children aged 0 -16yrs in the Taunton area who might otherwise receive very little on Christmas morning. We would like to continue our support for this local project by collecting donations of NEW gifts that we can pass on to the project organisers.
There is a box in the Reception area outside the Office for UNWRAPPED gifts to be placed into.
As stated, gifts should be new and NOT wrapped up.
If you are able to donate a small gift for this worthwhile cause, we would be very grateful for your help.
Avon & Somerset Police Christmas Card Competition
Calling all our amazing artists!! Please see the notice below asking for children to design a Christmas card that features one or more Police officers, or even Police dogs!! Details and entry conditions are stated below.
Entries must be submitted by 10th November.
Design our Christmas card: competition now open

Get your pens, pencils, and festive imaginations ready – our Christmas Card Competition 2025 is now open! We’re inviting young artists aged 5 to 11 across Avon and Somerset to design this year’s official Christmas cards for Chief Constable Sarah Crew and Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody. The theme this year is “Police at Christmas”, and we can’t wait to see how you capture the festive spirit of policing in your artwork. From officers patrolling in the snow to police dogs in festive gear – we want to see your creative take on how police help our communities over the Christmas period. Two lucky winners will each receive a £25 book voucher – and, of course, see their design featured on our official cards
Who can enter? We have two age categories this year:
- Ages 5–8 (OPCC category – chosen by Clare Moody)
- Ages 9–11 (Avon and Somerset Police category – chosen by Sarah Crew)
