Friday 22nd November 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope all the children that attended the North Town DISCOs had the best time! A huge thank you to the North Town PTA, Staff and Volunteers for making such events possible. As one of the volunteers left, she stopped me at the front gate and said ‘You’re children are so polite, lots of please and thank yous!’ Such a kind comment and quite rightly communicated on this newsletter.
Our Year Six children visited Kings School to watch a Year 8 production and Taunton School the following day to take part in a music event. I was lucky enough to attend the performance at Taunton School and was blown away by our children and their singing! They were amazing!
I very much enjoy walking throughout the school and observing the teaching and learning. I stopped and took in a phonics lesson earlier in the week and was so impressed by the delivery by the staff member and the engagement and effort of the children.
I have seen some impressive descriptive writing from some year three children with excellent vocabulary used!
Have a smashing weekend everyone!
Best wishes,
Christmas Service at St James’ Church
We are excited to invite parents to our Christmas Service at St James’ Church on Friday 20th December, from 10:00 am to approximately 11:00 am. Children from Years 3 to 6 will be attending, and the service will include festive singing from all of Key Stage 2, a short performance by some of the children, prayers, and speeches. To make this special event a success, we would greatly appreciate your support in helping us walk the children to and from the church. If you can assist, please let the school office know. We look forward to celebrating with you!
Children in Need
A huge thank you to all our parents and carers for your kind donations for Children in Need. We raised £345.75. A brilliant total and very much appreciated.
Extreme Weather
Whenever extreme weather is a possibility, there are procedures in place, should it be necessary to make the decision to close the school. Closure of the school would only be made in extreme weather conditions and where the majority of staff are unable to get to work.
Of course, every effort will be made to ensure the school is open. However, if the weather deteriorates significantly and we experience heavy snow fall/flooding, we ask all parents/carers to check the following:
- the school website “Home Page” for regular updates
- mobile phone/computer for a text message/e-mail via MCAS
- BBC Somerset Sound (95.5 FM) – www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/local_radio
- Heart FM (102.6 FM) – www.heart.co.uk/bristolsomerset
- Tone FM (107.8 FM) – www.tonefm.co.uk/
Wraparound Collection
If your child is going to be collected by someone different than normal from Wraparound, please ensure you have informed the Wraparound team. We are unable to release the children to anyone not on their records without prior permission.
Class Tea Towels – The Perfect Stocking Filler
As part of our fundraising opportunities at school, we have created tea towels that are an ideal Christmas present for family members. The tea towels are made of 100% cotton and are a large size of 79cm x 51cm. The tea towels have been created so that each year group is on the tea towel, and they will be made in bottle green.
The tea towels cost £4 each but we are also offering 3 for £10 across all tea towels. This means that you can buy 3 different ones and still qualify for the offer.
Please see the form sent home with your child this week for more details.
Sickness and diarrhoea policy
If your child is unwell with a stomach bug, they must be kept off school for 48 hours from their last episode of sickness and/or diarrhoea. This gives us the best chance of stopping germs spreading and keeping the other children and staff free from illness.
Emotion Coaching Parents Course
Another Emotion Coaching course is being planned for the Spring term to introduce parents to this scientifically proven method of behaviour and relationship improvement. The new course will begin in school on Friday 24th January 2025, running 1:30-3:00pm for 6 weeks until 7th March 2025. A friendly and supportive group, this is presented by our Parent & Family Support Adviser, Elaine. Further details on MCAS next week.

Christmas Jumper Day will soon be here again in school (Friday 13th December). If you have any children’s Christmas jumpers/t-shirts at home that you no longer require, please can you donate them to school for our Christmas Jumper stall at the Christmas Fair? Thank you.
