Friday 7th March 2025

Dear parent/carer,

Thank you to all our parents and carers with supporting World Book Day! The children looked fabulous in their costumers/pyjamas for the day. A huge thank you to our Reading Leader, Miss Causley for the activities she planned for the day. These past days has seen the Year 3 and 4 children join an author in a Zoom call, we have had Matt Oldfield (author of the Football Legends Books) visit North Town on Monday to lead a KS2 assembly and complete workshops with our Year Five and Year Six children and today we had the children in KS2 visit our KS1 classes and nursery to talk about their costumes and read to them. It was absolutely wonderful to see. I was asked this week by a child on the playground my favourite ever story. I was able to name my top three. All the Harry Potter stories in third place (I am a huge fan of Ron Weasley), Goodnight Mr Tom in second place and Kensuke’s Kingdom in first place. Great stories!

As I walked around the school this morning I was stopped in my tracks by some amazing art work by Yanice in Year Two. I wanted to share it with you all.

Have a smashing weekend everyone.

Best wishes,

Mark Braund

DISCO

Just a reminder that we have our DISCOs this evening.

KS1 is from 5pm-5:45pm – Please can parents and carers arriving for the DISCO wait until the staff come to open the gate. The only parents and carers allowed onto the premises before this time are those picking up from Wraparound.

Year 3 and 4 from 6pm-6:45pm – As above please can parents and carers arriving for the DISCO wait until the staff open the gate at 6pm. If a parent has to pick up a KS1 child, pick them up and then please return to wait in the queue with the rest of the parents and carers.

Year 5 and from 7pm – 7:45pm – As above.

Parents Evening Thanks

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended Parents Evening last night. We are so pleased with how smoothly the evening runs and are so pleased we made the move to have Parent’s Evening in the school hall and have parents and carers looking at the children’s work in the library.

STEM Activities

A huge thank you to Miss Fairfax for organising visitors to North Town to lead workshops on bees and robots! The children absolutely loved this opportunity and learnt so much from our visitors. I was thrilled to receive the following email from the leader:

Dear Mr Braund,

I had the pleasure of working with your Y2, 5 & 6 classes over the last two days. Can I just say how lovely and friendly I found your school. I visit a lot of schools and it makes such a difference for everyone to be so welcoming.

All the students I interacted with were engaged, respectful and keen to learn. I hope they had as much fun as I did. I’m trying to persuade Miss Fairfax to get me back after SATS to do some ‘FUN’ (university) maths with Y6, hopefully we can find a time that works for both of us.

Have a lovely weekend

 Kind regards

 Garry Packer

Sports Events

On Monday, we had a friendly netball tournament at Castle School. Each half was 5 minutes and every half we had to switch positions to make it fair. We had 3 teams, each team had 7 players from Y5 and Y6. I enjoyed being able to experience how other schools played and learning different techniques. Overall we played very well and are looking forward to next week.

Percie F, 6KN

On Thursday, a group of Y5/6 children attended a cyclo-cross event at Ash Meadows. The children took turns to race against others on a mountain bike in a course involving tight turns, getting over obstacles and lots of difficult terrain. It was great to see children trying their hardest in what was a new experience for many!

New parent Governor

Jessica Smith has been elected as a new parent governor. We welcome her to North Town.

Red Nose Day

On Friday 21st March we will be raising money for Red Nose Day and inviting the children to come to school with Crazy Hair and a Red Nose. The children will still be in their school uniform. We will be collecting money on the school gate if you would like to make a donation to Comic Relief.
