Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers at the Parents Evening on Tuesday. Once again, we appreciate you working with us to give the children the best support possible. Apologies for the cancelled Court Royal Parents Evening. North Town has been hit with staff sickness these past few days. The rearranged date for Court Royal Parents will be Tuesday 20th February as well as the existing Wednesday 21st February date.
Our Year Six children have been running through a practice SATS week these past days. They have been outstanding with how they have approached the tests. Their attitude, determination and focus has really impressed me. A huge well done to all of our Year Six children.
Wishing you all a smashing half term with your families and friends.
Best wishes,
Mr Braund
Mary Duke
Mary Duke will be leaving us today for the rest of the academic year. Mary has been at North Town for many years and has had a huge impact on so many children that have attended North Town. All the very best Mary.
Thank you Mrs Wallwork
Mrs Wallwork leaves North Town today to go on maternity leave. We all want to thank Clare for the impact she has made at the school and to wish her all the very best. We are very much looking forward to hearing the news of the arrival of Baby Wallwork.
Mrs Randoll
Mrs Randoll will be leaving the North Town office after half term. Thank you Jenna for being part of a brilliant office team these past years. We all wish you every success for the future.
‘Look Who’s Talking- Huish Schools Event
I was lucky enough to attend the Huish Primary Schools ‘Look Who’s Talking’ event at West Buckland Primary School on Wednesday. There were 10 finalists (2 from each school.) They all had to recite a poem of their choice and then talk about a topic of their choice for four minutes and then answer questions from a panel of judges. I have to say that I left West Buckland having witnessed ten amazing children speaking so confidently, so enthusiastically with so much expression. To stand up and speak in front of an audience is nerve wracking and yet they all did it brilliantly. Congratulations to Florence in Year 5 and Sonia in Year 4 for outstanding performances. I am so proud of you.
Bags in the Early Years
Many thanks to the parents and carers who have kindly taken time to stop and speak to members of the school leadership team regarding bags in EYFS and KS1. Staff are visible and available in school and we appreciate the time parents have taken to come and talk to us.
It is an issue for the school and one we are looking at options. Long term we will be looking at lockers for all children throughout the school. Some very valid points have been made regarding children that travel to school by bike, scooter and the need to have a back pack.
We do need parents and carers to be mindful about the need to bring a bag to school and also the size of the bag. Every family will have different circumstances and will travel to school in different ways.
The space is an issue and we are exploring options of which lockers are our preferred option but I am sure you all will appreciate this costs money and is something that all schools – like all sectors – are short of.
We very much value the relationships we have with our school community and appreciate how you work with us to ensure the children have the best educational experience possible. We also appreciate the awareness of the challenges that we at North Town and other schools face.
Traffic Around Schools
It was wonderful to have West Country news at North Town today. Our aim is to raise much awareness of the need for traffic to slow down outside the school and to push for a zebra crossing. As I stated yesterday in the ParentMail, it can be so easy for the general public to forget there is a school nearby because North Town is hidden away and the more awareness we can make as vehicles approach the area the better.
GRV Coaching Sports Club
A reminder that Mr Grave is running a multi-sports course during half term on Tuesday 13th – Thursday 15th. Further information and booking can be found via emails already sent on ParentMail.
